Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley was hit in the right hand by a 97-mph fastball on Tuesday, August 16, 2023. The Braves have since learned that Riley suffered a fractured right thumb and will be out for 6-8 weeks.

Riley's Injury

Riley was hit by a fastball from Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher JT Brubaker in the first inning of Tuesday's game. Riley immediately left the game and was taken to a local hospital for X-rays.
