North Korea's Participation in the Olympic Games
1964 to the Present
North Korea, officially known as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), has been participating in the Olympic Games since 1964, primarily in the Winter Olympic Games. In 1964, North Korea's Olympic debut was at the Winter Games held in Innsbruck, Austria.
Paris 2024
North Korea has confirmed its participation in the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, which will take place from July 26 to August 11. The country will be sending a team of 16 athletes to compete in various sports.
Past Olympic Appearances
In addition to its participation in the 1964 Winter Games, North Korea has also competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, where it sent 22 athletes. However, the country's most recent participation was marred by an unfortunate incident where South Korean athletes were mistakenly introduced as North Korean during the Opening Ceremony, leading to a formal apology from the Olympic organizers.
