Irs Extension Payment

File for an Extension to Get More Time to File Your Taxes

Pay Your Estimated Taxes

To file for an extension, you must estimate your tax liability and pay any taxes that you owe with Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return.

Ways to Pay Your Extension

There are three ways to pay your extension:

  • Online: Go to the IRS website and click on the "Pay Your Taxes" link. You can pay with a credit card, debit card, or electronic check.
  • Direct Pay: You can make an electronic payment using Direct Pay, a debit card, credit card, or digital wallet. Be sure to indicate that the payment is for an extension.
  • Check or Money Order: You can mail a check or money order to the IRS. Be sure to include Form 4868 with your payment.

The IRS recommends that you file for an extension electronically. This is the fastest and most convenient way to file.

Benefits of Filing an Extension

Filing for an extension can give you more time to gather your tax documents, prepare your return, and make sure that you are filing an accurate return.

An extension gives you until October 15, 2023 to file your 2022 tax return. However, it is important to note that an extension does not give you more time to pay your taxes. You must still pay any taxes that you owe by April 18, 2023.

If you do not file for an extension and do not pay your taxes by April 18, 2023, you may be subject to penalties and interest.
